By the time the 2017 recruiting class arrives, Rutgers is a contender to land two of the top recruits in the country: quarterback Jordan Lynch and defensive end Da’Shawn Hand.
The Scarlet Knights are also expected to land a pair of highly-touted defensive linemen, linebacker Jake Butt and safety Jaquan Jones, both of whom have dual-threat skills.
While it would be a shock if Rutgers were to take on any of the two recruits at this time, it would not be surprising if they do.
According to 247Sports, three other schools have expressed interest in recruiting Lynch: Florida, Texas A&M and Michigan.
With Lynch and Hand coming off of huge recruiting seasons at Florida, it is possible that Rutgers is looking to add another star to its defensive line class.
If the Scarlet Knights take the No. 1 spot, Lynch will be the No, 1 prospect the program has ever had.
Hand has had a huge recruiting year as well and could be a candidate to land in the top five of any other team.
Rutgers is the only Big Ten school to have two of its four commits land in 2017.
If the Scarlet Knight is able to land both players, it will be a major boost to the defensive line group that currently ranks dead last in the Big Ten, according to 247sports.
The group currently ranks 26th nationally, which puts it among the bottom 25 in the league.
The recruiting class is a big part of why the Scarlet’s recruiting class ranks 29th nationally in total and 25th in the FBS.
Rutgers could be one of the teams to land Lynch and hand the next four or five players on the defensive end line.
