The top players from the 2020 class, and many of the nation’s top prospects, are coming to the NBA this summer.
And the league is making a concerted effort to keep them all on the roster for next season.
Here are a few key storylines to watch as teams get ready to make the jump.1.
The top recruit is expected to be a top prospect: Kentucky guard Ben McLemore, who is the top overall recruit in the 2020 recruiting class, is expected, according to ESPN, to be the top recruit in 2021.
He is considered a top-10 prospect nationally, with several other top-25 prospects expected to also make the leap.2.
The 2018 class could be even better: The 2019 class could potentially be even more potent than the 2020 crop.
Michigan guard Myles Garrett, a top 20 recruit in 2019, was selected by the Houston Rockets in the first round, while North Carolina guard Jalen Hill is expected in the second round of the 2019 draft.
All three players are expected to end up in the NBA, and it’s not out of the question that all three would be in the starting lineup next season, even if they don’t play for the Rockets or the Heat.3.
Kentucky’s Lonzo Ball will be a star for years to come: Ball, the top high school recruit in 2020, is likely the best player in the 2019 class, according the 247Sports Composite, but the Kentucky junior will be even greater in 2019.
Ball is expected be the best guard in the country for the next decade and the best freshman in the nation in 2019 and 2020.
He’s also one of the most productive scorers in the league, averaging 10.4 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.4.
There are plenty of young players expected to step up next season: The 2020 class had eight players ranked in the top-30 nationally, including four top-50 players, including Kentucky guard Jalens Barnes, who was No. 1 in 2019 according to Scout.com.
There’s also freshman guard Trevon Bluiett (No. 16 in 2019), who averaged 15.2 points per game and was No 1 in the class in the 247Composite.5.
The NBA will be loaded next season with NBA-caliber talent: The league is looking to add a new class every year for the foreseeable future, and the 2020s are shaping up to be one of those years.
The 2019 draft was one of two that featured a top five draft pick, and there are a number of prospects in the 2018 class that have already been selected by NBA teams.
The 2020s, by contrast, have three players in the Top 25 and the Top 40, and all four of the top five prospects are expected in NBA teams’ plans next season in the 2017 class.6.
The big men will be huge in the coming years: The NBA is looking for some big men in the future, with guards DeAndre Jordan, Josh Jackson and Tyus Jones all in the running for NBA Player of the Year awards next season and several other prospects expected in big roles in the next three seasons.
There is a lot of talent on the wings in the frontcourt for next year, including power forwards Lonzo Vannett and Josh Hart, along with wing prospects Jodie Meeks and Jordan Hill.7.
The future of the big men may be brighter than ever: There is talent at the center position, with power forward Jordan Clarkson, center Hassan Whiteside, wing Kris Dunn, shooting guard Alex Len and small forward Tyler Ulis expected to play a big role in the Bulls’ future.
And with the draft class of 2019 being so strong, the Bulls may be able to add another big-bodied guard this offseason, according ESPN.8.
There will be some strong contenders in the draft next season if the Bulls do not make the playoffs: The Bulls have a great chance to make it to the conference finals, and if they do, they will have a very strong group of young prospects who are ready to take on the elite level of the NBA.
The Bulls could have a chance to land one of these young prospects if they fail to reach the playoffs in 2019-20, but it is also possible that they will be able bring a few of these guys into their rotation in 2020-21.9.
The Knicks should be one the teams in contention next season when the playoffs begin: The Knicks are one of four teams in the West, and they have a number for sure that are ranked in either the top or top five in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
If the Knicks make the playoff and make the conference semifinals, they’ll be one team that can contend for a top four seed in 2019 or 2020.10.
If you were to predict the 2020 draft class, what would you think would be the most notable addition?
